Uncle Andrew

I am readying the Chronicles of Narnia to the girls and we are reading the first book. One of my favorite quotes so far is about Uncle Andrew, a selfish old man who when he enters into Narnia cannot hear the animals (or Aslan) talking "When the great moment came and the Beasts spoke, he missed the whole point for a rather interesting reason. When the Lion had first begun singing, he had realized the noise was a song. And he had disliked the song very much. It made him think and feel things he did not want to think and feel. He tried his hardest to make believe that it wasn't singing and never had been singing. The longer and more beautiful the Lion sang, the harder Uncle Andrew tried to make himself believe that he could hear nothing but roaring. Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are, is that very often you succeed. Uncle Andrew did. He soon did hear nothing but roaring in Aslan's song" I told the girls that this is what happens if we keep on rejecting God's love or don't listen to what He is saying in His word. Eventually, it becomes harder and harder to hear the truth.
